The Reverend Henry Ward Beecher,
Called a hen an elegant creature,
The hen, pleased with that,
Laid an egg in his hat,

    Launch into a diet or burst!
    I'm sorry to say, not the first.
    For most of the week
    I try hard to be sleek
    With Chewsdays and Friedays the worst.

    Just a small point. I think the limerick might be better attributed to Oliver Herford, not Oliver Wendell Holmes
